In LDS homes, having children carries particular significance as we believe we are partnering with Heavenly Parents in the creation of life. This is one of the most sacred beliefs in Mormonism. However, the church culture sometimes deprioritizes the needs of mothers and their young infants.
This is particularly true when it comes to breastfeeding. We believe that our leaders at the general level appreciate hearing from the membership they serve. With the good information we can provide them through sharing our feelings and life experiences, they can seek revelation and be inspired with ways to help and guide us.
When describing the condition of the "Mother's Room" in most LDS meetinghouses in the United States, the following words are often used: "too small" "not enough chairs or space for everyone" "stinky" "distracting, too many bathroom noises" "chairs are all broken" "no ventilation" "dark, poor lighting and no window" "no Sacrament" "not private, people walking through" "can't hear the meetings or classes" "no where to pump" "a dark, creepy closet where they squeezed a rocking chair" "no air-conditioning, super sweaty for both of us."
